Expansion Joints for Plaza Decks | Sika Emseal Watertight Building Enclosure Solutions

Sika Emseal offers a multitude of watertight expansion joint systems to ensure a static tie-in to the waterproofing membrane in split-slabs and plaza deck joints. Thoughtfully designed transitions ensure continuity of the building enclosure - https://www.emseal.com/product/watertight-expansion-joint-transitions/ RoofJoint (https://www.emseal.com/product/roofjoint-roof-expansion-joint/) can be used in split-slab and hardscaped decks when drainage or other construction may be impeded by the expansion joint protruding above the structural deck elevation. In these cases an additional expansion joint seal would be needed at the wearing course. (See SJS, DSM and DSM-DS.) As with roof applications where a fire-rated seal is also required, Emshield DFR can be installed directly below the RoofJoint. When transitioning to a vertical wall expansion joint, Seismic Colorseal can be used. SJS: https://www.emseal.com/product/sjs-seismic-joint-system-seismic-expansion-joint/ DSM: https://www.emseal.com/product/dsm-system-watertight-expansion-joint/ Emshield DFR: https://www.emseal.com/product/dfr2-fire-rated-expansion-joint-floors/ Seismic Colorseal: https://www.emseal.com/product/seismic-colorseal-wall-expansion-joint-3/ A seismic plaza deck expansion joint system the SJS-FP System (https://www.emseal.com/product/sjs-fp-seismic-plaza-deck-expansion-joint/) is designed to provide a watertight, trafficable joint system in wide expansion joints in hardscaped decks of split-slab design. SJS-FP expands the use of the SJS System to waterproofed hardscaped split-slab deck designs through the use of structural-slab mounted retainer legs with integral waterproofing side sheets that integrate with the deck waterproofing membrane. The retainer legs are available in leg heights that can be matched to the topping slab or wear course thickness. The waterproofing side sheets lock into the top of the retainer legs and are embedded in and encapsulated by the deck waterproofing membrane. The SJS System foam/spline assembly installs between the faces of the retainer legs. The foam/spline assembly is constructed from two precompressed foam sealants pre-assembled in parallel adjacent to a heavy-duty extruded aluminum spline. The spline acts as a receptor for attaching the surface-mounted traffic plates that bear vehicle and other loads. The result is a system that is watertight and covered with a cover plate that is securely anchored into the wear course. A plaza-deck to solid-slab or wall expansion joint, DSM-FP is watertight and purpose designed for use in plaza decks particularly where a split-slab meets a solid slab or wall - https://www.emseal.com/product/dsm-fp-watertight-plaza-deck-expansion-joint/ DSM-FP extends the use of the DSM System to waterproofed split-slab deck designs through combination with our FP (for plaza) mounting rails and side flashing sheets that integrate with the deck waterproofing membrane and contain the wearing course. The material that bridges and seals between the FP mounting rails is Emseal’s DSM System which is a silicone-and-impregnated-foam hybrid sealant that ensures watertightness, absorbs sound, dampens vibration and offers uncomplicated installation. In contrast to buried joint systems, Emseal’s FP Systems prevent the buckling of pavers or other hardscaped wear course materials and will not suffer flex-fatigue failure at the waterproofing membrane tie-in. A plaza deck expansion joint, Migutan FP110 and FP155 (https://www.emseal.com/product/migutan-plaza-deck-expansion-joint/) are unique designs incorporating side membrane sheets which integrate with the deck waterproofing system to form a continuous, completely watertight system. For applications, particularly over occupied space, where totally watertight integration of expansion joint and deck membrane is a fundamental requirement. Application examples include hardscaped split-slab construction on plaza (podium) decks, split-slab parking decks, stadium concourses, and anywhere waterproofed split slab construction is specified. For applications with softscaped toppings (green roofs, garden roofs, under landscaping) see RoofJoint - https://www.emseal.com/product/roofjoint-roof-expansion-joint/ Highly configurable, using factory-fabricated transitions, to a multitude of field conditions, Migutan is the only system of its kind with a 20-year track record and tens of thousands of feet installed and functioning. Expansion Joints for Roofs | EMSEAL RoofJoint Watertight Expansion Joint and Transitions

RoofJoint(https://www.emseal.com/product/roofjoint-roof-expansion-joint/) is a watertight roof expansion joint from Sika Emseal. It provides a watertight seal for expansion gaps on the roof and also transitioning to walls. It's a patented dual-seal, double-flanged, extruded thermoplastic rubber system for sealing expansion joints in roofs, plaza assemblies, green and vegetative roofs. Watertightness is achieved through positive integration with the roofing membrane and a purpose-designed system for transitioning between the joint in the roof and joints in walls. Movement at the joint is accommodated by the folding design of the gland. The double-cell configuration provides two levels of sealing. The geometric shape is purpose-designed for the lowest strain during movement to ensure longevity. In addition to roof applications, RoofJoint can be effectively used for softscape plazas as well as split slab and hardscaped decks when drainage or other construction may be impeded by the expansion joint protruding above the structural deck elevation. In these cases an additional expansion joint seal would be needed at the wearing course. (See Emseal’s SJS, DSM and DSM-DS.) EMSEAL SJS Seismic Trafficable Watertight Expansion Joint

EMSEAL's SJS seismic expansion joint system is the industry standard for larger, watertight expansion joints used in parking garages, decks, walkways and other horizontal areas with vehicular or pedestrian traffic requiring a coverplate. This quick overview shows the product and how easy it is to install. The EMSEAL SJS System is the best solution to your new construction or retrofit repair larger horizontal expansion joint needs. More on SJS here: https://www.emseal.com/product/sjs-seismic-joint-system-seismic-expansion-joint/ A seismic expansion joint, the SJS System is watertight and features a trafficable cover plate that is not attached to the concrete deck. It is comprised of silicone-and-impregnated-foam hybrid components that ensure watertightness, absorb sound, dampen vibration and offer uncomplicated installation. Specify SJS-FR for all the benefits of SJS with the added life safety assurance of a built-in UL 2079 fire rating. SJS is constructed from two precompressed hybrid foam sealants pre-assembled in parallel adjacent to a heavy-duty extruded aluminum spline. The spline acts as a receptor for attaching the surface-mounted traffic plates that bear vehicle and other loads. The result is a system that offers features and benefits not found in alternative products intended for large, horizontal structural joint gaps. Unlike side-mounted coverplates, the SJS plate is not anchored into the concrete and will not loosen during load transfer and vertical deflection movement. Watertight at the deck surface, the SJS System does not rely on gutters that hang under the joint. Water is thus not trapped where it must be managed away. FIRE RATED & Watertight: SJS is available also with a built-in UL-Listed fire rating. More on SJS-FR here: https://www.emseal.com/product/sjs-fr-fire-rated-seismic-expansion-joint/ FOR PLAZA DECKS: SJS is available with FP (For Plaza) leg assemblies and integral side flashing sheets that tie into plaza deck or split-slab buried waterproofing membranes on the structural slab. More on SJS-FP here: https://www.emseal.com/product/sjs-fp-seismic-plaza-deck-expansion-joint/ FIRE RATED FOR PLAZA DECKS: A UL-Listed, UL-2079 tested system for plaza decks SJS-FP-FR achieves waterproofing and fire rating in plaza decks in a single assembly installed from above the deck with no need to access the underside of the structural slab. More on SJS-FP-FR here: https://www.emseal.com/product/sjs-fp-fr-fire-rated-plaza-deck-expansion-joint/ Watertight – The tensionless silicone bellows are installed flush to the mounting height of the system and just below the cover plate ensuring watertightness at the traffic surface. This eliminates the need for ineffective moisture barriers and secondary gutter systems. SJS System is also available specifically for watertight integration with split-slab buried waterproofing systems–see SJS-FP. Sound Dampened – The flanking impregnated foam and silicone hybrid dampens sound and shock effectively. When installed over EMSEAL-supplied elastomeric nosing material Emcrete, the result is arguably the quietest watertight cover plate system available. (Video: See and hear the SJS difference.) Installs Rapidly – Using non-invasive anchoring the SJS System eliminates drilling associated with hard metal-to-concrete connections as well as intrusive pins, anchors, screws, bolts or tracks, trays or rails. The system is locked to the joint faces by the backpressure of the foam and an epoxy adhesive, and by the injection of a silicone sealant band at the bellows to substrate interface. (Video of installation in a parking deck or a stadium at the New York Mets and the San Francisco 49ers). Self-Locating Cover Plate Screws – The center spline is a continuous receptor for the cover plate screws that are self-tapped into the anchor channel. This dramatically reduces the installation-related problems of locating self-centering, sliding ball devices and pantographs. The probability of screws being left out is eliminated ensuring proper anchoring. Self-Locking, Vibration-Dampened Screws – Vibration in systems that rely on metal-to-metal connections and contact points is the main cause of screw loosening. SJS minimizes vibration through the dampening action of the massive and continuous springs of impregnated foam along the entire length of the joint. In addition, 30 pounds of force is required to loosen the screws offering excellent screw tightness without the need for thread-lock compounds. Continuity of Seal – All EMSEAL expansion joint systems feature continuity of seal through changes in plane and direction –– an essential performance differentiator. Interlocking or continuous fabricated transitions for curbs, sidewalks, treads and risers, and parapets for example, are available with the SJS System.

EMSEAL DSM Traffic Grade Watertight Expansion Joint

EMSEAL's DSM System is the industry standard for watertight expansion joints used in parking garages, decks, walkways, stadiums and other horizontal areas with vehicular or pedestrian traffic. This quick overview shows the product and how easy it is to install. EMSEAL DSM System is the best solution to your new construction or retrofit repair horizontal expansion joint needs. https://www.emseal.com/product/dsm-system-watertight-expansion-joint/ A watertight expansion joint, the DSM System is for horizontal-plane deck applications. Traffic durable, joint-face adhered and precompressed, DSM System is a primary seal for deck expansion joints. DSM’s toughness and resilience come from its microsphere-modified-acrylic impregnation and tensionless highway-grade silicone bellows coating. The system is comprised of 1) pre-compressed, silicone-and-impregnated-foam hybrid; 2) field-applied epoxy adhesive on the joint faces; 3) a silicone sealant band that seals substrate voids and irregularities. An unmatched performance record has established DSM System as a standard for parking deck and stadium expansion joint sealing. Unlike extruded rubber seals, ‘caulk-and-backer rod’ and other predecessor technologies, DSM does not suffer from compression-set nor does it rely on adhesion in tension for its performance. Highly configurable, the DSM System uniquely handles changes in plane and direction essential to ensuring continuity of seal. Watertight—the system is installed just below the deck surface. This ensures watertightness is achieved at the deck surface not in gutters from which water must be managed. Non-Invasive Anchoring—there are no hard metal-to-concrete connections in the system. This includes embedded pins, anchors, screws, bolts or tracks, trays or rails. The system is locked to the joint faces by means of the 1) backpressure of the foam, 2) the epoxy adhesive, and 3) the injected silicone sealant band at the joint face to foam and silicone bellows interface. Continuity of Seal—as in all EMSEAL expansion joint systems, continuity of seal through changes in plane and direction is an essential performance differentiator. Details for watertight, field-fabricated transitions from deck to wall, at curbs, sidewalks, parapets, tees, and crosses are available with the DSM SYSTEM. Aesthetics & Versatility—Standard color is gray (other colors available), uniform bellows appearance, double sealing, fuel resistance, and an enhanced ability to handle variations in joint size are among other system features. Transitions and Terminations https://www.emseal.com/product/universal-custom-90s/ Universal-90’s: Universal-90’s (or U-90’s) are factory-made 90-degree transition pieces that ensure continuity-of-seal where expansion joints change plane. Use of U-90’s eliminates the field work needed to make plane changes making overall installation fast and efficient. Watertightness through the plane change is guaranteed–leaving nothing to chance in field-fabricating inside and outside transitions. U-90 transitions are symmetrically coated on both faces allowing them to be installed as an inside corner or as an outside corner. Straight-run sticks are joined in the field to the U-90’s. U-90’s have a 12-inch (305mm) long leg and a 6-inch (152mm) vertical piece on each side of the elbow. Custom-90’s: Custom-90’s, are factory-fabricated inside and outside 90-degree transition pieces coated on just the weather-facing faces. Custom-90’s are available when field conditions and measurements are known up front. Custom-90’s are widely used in stadium tread and riser applications or other applications where numerous inside and outside 90-degree transitions are required. Consult EMSEAL.
